The Last Wilderness
Once home to legendary conservationists George and Joy Adamson, Kora National Park — famously known as “Kampi ya Simba” — is a pristine wilderness of rugged beauty. Dotted with towering inselbergs, shaded by acacia woodlands and doum palms, and graced by the winding Tana River, the park is a true sanctuary for both wildlife and history lovers. Along the Tana’s course lie the spectacular Adamson’s Falls, Grand Falls, and Kora Rapids.
Attractions & Activities
Kora’s story is inseparable from that of Elsa the Lioness, immortalized in Joy Adamson’s world-renowned book and film, Born Free. This timeless story of love and freedom draws visitors from across the globe to retrace the Adamsons’ conservation legacy.
Wildlife enthusiasts can spot elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, Lesser kudu, striped and spotted hyenas, as well as an astonishing 500 species of insects and 40 species of reptiles.
Visitors can enjoy bird watching, hiking, river rafting, fishing, rock climbing, camping, and visits to George Adamson’s grave, a poignant tribute to the man known as “Baba ya Simba” – the Father of Lions.
Every August, the park hosts an annual George Adamson Memorial, celebrating his life’s work and passion for wildlife conservation — a fitting homage to one of Kenya’s most beloved guardians of nature.
